A healthcare assistant, also known as a healthcare support worker or nursing assistant, is an important member of the healthcare team who provides direct patient care and assistance. Healthcare assistants help to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients while working under the supervision of competent healthcare professionals.

Principal Responsibilities:

Patient Care: Provide direct care and support to patients, such as personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, and toileting. Assist patients with movement, positioning, and transferring, while maintaining their comfort and safety.

Monitoring Vital indicators: Take and record vital indicators such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate on patients. Any substantial changes or anomalies should be reported to the relevant healthcare specialists.

Assist healthcare workers with medical operations such as wound treatment, suture removal, specimen collecting, and basic diagnostic testing. Ensure that all equipment is sterilised and maintained appropriately.

Patient Observations: Keep an eye out for any physical or emotional changes, strange symptoms, or indicators of distress in patients. To ensure quick action, report observations to the healthcare staff as soon as possible.

Medication Administration: Assist with the administration of drugs to patients in accordance with the guidelines and practises established. Keep accurate medication records and report any drug mistakes or side effects.
